Jessica is a yogi, physiologist, and movement scholar.

She utilizes a unique blend of movement and postural therapeutics to asses how to redistribute strength and bring balance throughout the body. Sessions focus on how to integrate mobility and stability training, breathing techniques, neural patterns, and personal history in order for people to feel better, perform better, and live better. She helps clients reshape patterns to make effort more effortless, strength more supple, and power more resilient.

Jessica’s sessions draw from many different movement modalities, while being grounded in both a strong academic foundation and the current literature on biomechanics and physiology. Her academic background includes s a  bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, a Masters of Science degrees in Exercise Physiology from San Diego State, and a Masters of Science in  Human Physiology from Boston University.

She has conducted research on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, skeletal and airway muscle, the physiological effects of several types of sports and training programs, as well as published research on yoga and how the practice affects physiology. She has experience working with  a psychiatrist, helping to grow and administer a new therapy program for patients suffering from depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric illnesses.

She also has been studying and/or teaching yoga for over a decade and has spent years training with senior Yoga therapy and Iyengar teachers, as well as studying other myofascial release techniques, structural integration, Feldenkrais, and neuromuscular connections. She stays up to date with the current literature on biomechanics and physiology and acts as a reviewer for scientific articles.

Jessica has also been an athlete her entire life. She started swimming competitively at age seven, and went on to train with a national team at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs during high school, and went on to swim for a NCAA Division I team in college. She remains active now through biking, hiking, swimming, and strength training.

Given her background, she considers herself a movement integrator and draws from her background to best serve her client’s needs. She believes everyone’s body conditions are a unique blend resulting from their lifestyle, athletic activities, injury history, occupation, socioeconomic conditions, and genetics.  Given that uniqueness, she customizes sessions based on a client’s history and future needs, as well as how a client responds to different movement modalities. She’s committed to helping people develop a better  understanding of their body in order to  feel better and perform at their best.

Testimonials

I have been working with Jessica for five years, and my wife and friends for even longer.  Jessica starts each session with a check in about how my body is feeling on that particular day and then customizes the experience to target specific areas where I am feeling restricted.  She also feels out my level of energy and stress that day to determine the amount of active work to tackle or to approach it as more of a rehab/stretching session.  Jessica seems to know and understand the body as well as most doctors, physical therapists or masseuses I have encountered over the years.  When I have an injury, she understands how to strengthen the areas around the injury instead of trying to stretch the area that is injured.  She has a full understanding of how when one area of your body is stiff or in pain, it can be caused by a different area of your body that needs to be focused on.  This approach often surprises me with very good results.  I would highly recommend her services (just not when I have her booked:)

I have been working with Jessica for several years and have been developing an entirely new relationship with my body as a result! The work has helped me to recognize and change less useful or harmful patterns, be aware of how I sit and stand, and have better access to activating some of my muscles and body parts where I previously did not have awareness.

Jessica is the best! I love taking her private sessions because they are challenging, but relaxing at the same time. I feel so stretched, strengthened, and exhausted in a positive way. Jessica has the experience to help you with wherever you are, however you are. She listens to your experience and tailors the session specifically to your needs. Her virtual sessions are also as being with her in person.
